MUSEUM OF SCIENCE FICTION
Washington D.C.
Each successive era of science fiction has positioned itself as a critique of the contemporary, demonstrating where we should go or where we might be going.
The design employs simple forms with embellished architectural details to create spaces that are otherworldly. Using concentric circles and arcs allows the galleries to act as a series of spatial crescendos. The compartmentalization of each gallery wedge allows for a variety of exhibits to run simultaneously. Continuity is maintained visually through large portals in the partition bulkheads. Should the museum need to support a large exhibition, the wedges will seamlessly contain different sects of the larger organization.
